Forest Height Estimation by Means of TanDEM-X InSAR and Waveform Lidar Data

چکیده

Model-based forest height inversion from Pol-InSAR data relies on the realistic parameterization of underlying (vertical) radar reflectivity function. In context interferometric TanDEM-X measurements - especially in global single pol DEM mode this is not possible due to limited dimensionality observation space. order overcome this, use lidar waveforms directly approximate proposed. This allows estimation a single, polarimetric, bistatic acquisition. extend proposed lidar-supported schema areas only partially covered or sampled by (waveform) measurements, “mean” profile further defined means eigenfunctions available set waveforms. Both approaches are demonstrated and validated using airborne waveform acquired framework AfriSAR 2016 campaign over Lopé National Park, Gabon.

Forest height estimation using P-band Pol-InSAR data

A P-band Pol-InSAR dataset acquired over a maritime pine forest is evaluated for forest height estimation. First, a time-frequency inversion methodology is presented. Good results have been obtained (2 m RMS error over 27 stands). However, since the method is adapted to airborne SAR data, we further investigate methods that could be used to invert spaceborne SAR data. Possible adaptations of th...

Detection of Forest Clear-Cuts with Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and Tandem-X InSAR Data

The aim of this study was to determine whether forest clear-cuts during 2000–2011 could be detected as a decrease in surface height by combining Digital Surface Models (DSMs) from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and Tandem-X, and to evaluate the performance of this method using SRTM Xand C-band data as references representing the heights before logging. The study area was located in...

Forest-fire detection by means of lidar

Lidar is a promising tool for forest-fire monitoring because, due to its very high sensitivity and spatial resolution, this active detection technique enables efficient location of small smoke plumes that originate from forest fires in the early stages of development during both day and night and over a considerable range. Earlier experiments carried out by the authors testify that small fires ...

Model Based Forest Height Estimation from Single Baseline Pol-InSAR Data: The Fichtelgebirge Test Case

In this paper the potential of forest height estimation from single baseline quad-polarised interferometric SAR data is evaluated. The achieved estimation performance for a variety of (temperate) forest and topographic conditions is assessed and discussed.
